Purvi Dubey, Test Lead and Product Support

Purvi joined iWIST in fall of 2024 and immediately put her name forward to serve on the Board. She felt what set iWIST apart from similar associations is their commitment to creating a safe, inclusive space where women in STEM on Vancouver Island can connect, collaborate, and grow. Purvi felt she could share her own journey as she built a career, “I have a diploma in Information and Computer Systems and work in software testing and product support. My experience spans technology, quality assurance, and community engagement within STEM-focused organizations so this feels right.” We couldn’t agree more!

Encouraging members to help iWIST build a strong and diverse community is a big part of our fundamental goals - finding new opportunities to address issues and welcome allies.

Contributing to her community

As she explains, “I wanted to contribute to a community that uplifts and empowers women in STEM. As someone early in my career, I saw an opportunity to both give back and grow alongside other inspiring professionals.” Being brand new comes with advantages, a fresh perspective and a sense of excitement about what’s in store, “I haven’t attended many events yet, but the AGM was an exciting and welcoming experience. Even as a new board member, I never felt shy or out of place—there were so many inspiring people to talk to, ideas to share, and valuable insights from the past year. Hearing about all the amazing events and initiatives made me even more excited to be part of iWIST!”

When asked how she would pitch iWIST to a new colleague or friend Purvi was quick to respond,

“iWIST is a fun, geeky, and welcoming community where STEM professionals connect, collaborate, and inspire each

other. If you’re in STEM, this is the place to find like-minded people who turn ideas into something

great—because when brilliant minds come together, incredible things happen!”

What do you see as an opportunity to support women in STEM?

An opportunity to support women in STEM lies in creating more spaces for collaboration, mentorship, and visibility. By connecting women across industries, we can amplify their voices and build a collective network that not only addresses challenges but also celebrates achievements. Encouraging more women to step into leadership roles and providing them with the tools and support they need to succeed will help break down barriers and inspire the next generation. It’s about shifting the narrative, ensuring women have equal opportunities, and creating environments where they can thrive without limitations.

Why does this organization matter to you and to the community?

iWIST fosters a sense of belonging and provides a platform for mentorship, networking, and professional growth. Representation and peer support are crucial in STEM, and iWIST creates a space where women and allies can thrive together.

Anything extra you’d like to share?

I’m excited to contribute to iWIST’s mission and to help create more spaces where women in STEM feel seen, heard, and supported. Looking forward to what’s ahead—and you should be too!
